Ok.  so. since last post:   lost last job.  got new job photo retouching fashion models.  It's good, it's bad, it's uglier than you think.    I like it, but things have been busy of late and i'm doing unexpected things like working weekends and 12 hour days and i'm worried it might cut into my NANO which OMG I'm doing again, YAY!    If you wanna follow that, it will be on facebook, cuz i'm definitely not going to have time to update more than one webpresence.    It's the story of our seriously kickass WOD campaign.  My synopsis from the NANO website is thus:

A man is searching for his kidnapped son.  Along the way he encounters social workers, old friends, the mob, vampires, Atlantis, time travel and the apocolypse.  Gauranteed to be 100% epic win.

Probably going to be taking a break from the regular novel to work on this.  this is earth based so i think it's going to be a little easier for me to handle.  no making up alien cultures and stuff.  I feel like if I can complete this i'll have a better handle on the novel.  ...which is on chapter 16 or so, by the way.

Ok.  gotta go sleep!  gonna a lot of that soon!

Experts say: Write Every Day

Howdy everybody.  And I can say that now because there are at least 3 of you.  ^.^

So, good news is that I got a job that I'm pretty happy with.  I work now at a place called Miller Direct.  It's a marketing & production company, so what they do is take new inventions or old products that need to be repositioned, change their name and look, determine where to promote them (QVC, Infomercial or retail), and then write and film the infomercial.

More good news is that I just got back from an awesome trip to alaska with my family.  I saw lots of dogs and glaciers.  :)

My mom, Me and the glacier. I look geeky. lol

Even better news is that I am working on  ch. 4.   :)  I'm working on my novel longhand in a notebook every day on my lunch break.  I always new I was supposed to, but writing every day really does make a difference.  Since I'll be revising it when I type it into the computer, the next draft should be readable and the draft after that might be ready for online, chapter by chapter publishing.  Working 30 minutes to an hour a day on my novel gets me through a chapter in a week or two.  Very exciting!  It's much easier than when I was in school, with no regular schedule.

Not sure what's going on in the photoshop department.  My computer still sucks and can't handle the software properly, but I can get it to function in 300dpi as long as the picture is 81/2 by 11 or smaller.  That's pretty much big enough to do what I want to do, so I will probably get around to some more soon, but it's not a priority.  I made a few attempts to teach myself illustrator, but so far have not been able to successfully create a simple gradient, so that's not going very well at all.  :/   It seems it's going to take a lot more than just having the right book.

Where I'm at: home. hah.
How I feel: accomplished accomplished
music: APC and Jason Mraz. Am I allowed to like both of those?

ZOMG.

I have officially graduated.  I haven't got my real diploma yet (in the mail :(  )  but I walked across the stage with my tassels and all that.

No more homework, no more classes, no more living in a dorm surrounded by other 20 year olds.

Very cool.

This semester was good for me, despite it being one of the busiest and most stressful I have ever had.  I did a really cool independent study project on politics and advertising, I took a photoshop class that taught me a million things I can't wait to try out, and I did a real marketing campaign for a non-profit organization where I got to be the art director and in the process made myself a little portfolio.

Now it's time for work and job searching.
I'm much more optimistic than before.  I have a little portfolio from campaigns and I'm doing a little volunteer work.  I took a photoshop class, so I feel qualified to use the program and all that.  All in all I feel pretty sunny.

The novel:  It's been hibernating all year.  I know.  I'm very sorry, but you know what?  School had to be first.  School is now over.  Campaigns has finished kicking my ass.  Hopefully, now there will be novel.  I'm thinking about another NANO in June maybe.  That would be fun.  Also, new developments encourage me to take a second stab at chapter 2.

The website:  It makes me unhappy.  It takes forever to make each page and I want, like, 10,000,000 pages.  :(   I'm looking at sitecube because they have templates.  We'll see.   I have lots of content, though.  I've been working on a "research project" in OneNote and I've done a lot of research on setting and world mechanics, which is good because my setting was very bland.  The next thing I want to update is my Villain.  He's boring.  He needs to be rounder, and I need to flesh out his organization and minions etc.   My creative writing teacher told me that a 20 page story averages about 60 pages of pre-writing.  It's encouraging because I figure I've got a trilogy on my hands of about 500 pages each and I feel like I've been mired in pre-writing forever.  XP

DeviantArt:  Perhaps you have noticed a shortage of pictures.  Is that because I have become too busy to draw?  No.  I actually draw more when I'm busy, but I have recently decided that I wanted to work in 300dpi, which does very pretty things the the lines that I'm using.  Unfortunately, my computer can't handle 300dpi.
At all.
It's very sad.
However, my photoshop project, which was produced on a shiny Mac, only needs a few finishing touches before I put it up that I can complete on someone else's computer.  Expect to see that in the next week or 2.  I have loads of picture ideas.  I have nearly a full sketchbook of things I'm waiting to finish, but I'm being cock-blocked by my Toshiba.  It's very frustrating.

So, that's me.  I know it's been a long time since my last post, but I've come out of hiding.  I should also be back on facebook more too.  I know I made a bunch of grammar errors all over this thing but I can't be bothered to fix it right now.

Hopefully my next post will be soon.  :D  I have found some things on the interwebs that amuse me and I want to talk about it.

Soooo progress update:

Still working on chapter 2.  This semester I am taking Narrative strategies (yay).
Good news:  This will help me with my novel by teaching me technique, and I will be spending a lot of time writing.
Bad news:  I will be spending a lot of time writing things that are *not* my novel.  The two stories I am working on for my class are different stories, mostly because I think I'll get the most out of the class that way.

I'm still working on chapter two though.  It might be done some time in October.  It looks like I'll be doing a chapter every two months instead of every month at this rate :/ (but they're looong chapters!).

Website:  Will be able to post another wave of character based content soon.  I might hire (or enslave) jemi to help me get my notes digitized.  That will move things faster.

Unfortunately for me, I am nearing the end of my college career, and therefore must sincerely attempt to find an internship.  I don't want to find an internship.  I want to doodle and take creative writing classes for the rest of my life, but since I also don't want to live at home after I graduate and work for $7.95/h until I die, an internship is necessary.  >:P

According to my mother, I can't apply to work in a creative field with a resume that is a "word document" (though I think applying to anywhere with any kind of resume is better than not applying at all)  and must,  therefore make it into a big, unnecessary "creative" resume website project that expresses all the most wonderful aspects of "me."  I don't want an extra homework assignment.  I just want an internship.  Either way, I must now make a *second* website so that I can apply for work, because apparently, job application in the entire rest of the united states does not apply to me.  And of course, it has to be *perfect* or I'll be flipping burgers for the rest of my life.

So that will also take time away from stuff I actually like.

What else do I update on here?

Deviantart.  Might have a map of Tyrn up soon.  Learned some new techniques for shading at the anime convention, though my next few pictures might not reflect this, since I started them before.  Got one of R'ika and Luika in the works that's really nice.

other than that, school is good.  I like my classes and mark is teaching me to DM.  (I think as a female DM that might put me on the endangered species list.  Either that, or it might make me eligible for worship as a nerd goddess.)  I dyed my hair pink, also.  :)  It was fun.

That's all for now.  I hope you guys are doing well.  :)

If you want to review, I'm looking mostly for thoughts on expostion:  is everything clear?  Was there anywhere with too much or not enough information?  how is the flow?  etc.
Beyond that, any thoughts or general review is good too.

And if you can't review, don't sweat it.  I'm happy to hear from you either way.

As of about 2 days ago I am back in the country.

I am also within a hair's breadth of posting chapter 1.  (YAY!)   What am I waiting for?  I sent it out to my newly appointed editor (*note* editor is not necessarily aware that he is being appointed) for one final review before I post it online FOR THE WORLD!!!1!!!1!
I am excited.

In other news, I read 2 very good books on the plane--or should I say a good book and an excellent book.
The first was City of Bones by Cassandra Claire.  It's Awesome and I highly recommend it.  I'd rate it by stars, but then I'd have to give it the milky way.
I can't wait for the second one (comes out in march SQUEE!!  The cover's AMAZING!!!!  How will I live?!?!).  <-- fangirl attack...

The second book was, of course, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows--So none of you bastards can ruin it for me! (::grump:: I'll give you 'sirrius dies' ::/grump::)   I strongly believe in finishing what I start.  It was very solidly good.  Better than the last two, definitely.  She was really hard core with the 'people dying' and all that.  I have a lot of respect for that.
I have decided that I absolutely CANNOT STAND Ginny, or at least Ginny/Harry.  She is shooed away to "safety" and off screen any time something *remotely* important happens.  She is effectively useless to Harry and I can't stand useless love interests.  They need to pull their own weight.  As Equals.  Not the same, but deserving of the protagonist by being, well, important.  Or good at something.
I am pleased with Harry again and I kinda liked how Ron/Hermione worked out despite myself.
Over all I really liked the book, and If you want a more thorough review go Here:  http://thegraybook.livejournal.com/217686.html#cutid1 Because Cassandra Claire is a goddess.

I might have a new picture up soon, since I had some time in Spain, and I also finished the in depth questions for the character reviews.

Must go now, but update soon, I promise.  :D

Youbetcha!  Website = updated.  Finally!

It is located here:  http://home.att.net/~sanna17/feigned_oasis_2.htm and I will put this on my sidebar as well.  The old homepage still exists, and it has a link to the new page on it.

The page is connected to the LJ, the Deviant Gallery and my quiz.  Most of my original content hasn't been uploaded yet because...it's...really a lot of material, but that is another project I'll be working on.  It will be easier now that I have the site as a guide.

A link will be posted to my Fictionpress account as soon as Ch. 1 is up, so it will be a hub for everything.  :D

I DID IT!!!!!!!

May. 31st, 2007 | 08:39 pm
Where I'm at: Cloud 9
How I feel: ecstatic ecstatic
music: Portishead

I DID IT!!  I made it to 50,000 words!  My rough draft is done!!   Here's the play by play from the facebook group.  :D  !!!!

5/3/07 -  I am at 2,201 words.  :)

5/4/07 -  I am at 4,463 words.  I AM ON FIRE!!!!!!  I am also at the same place I stopped at on my last draft, so everything from here on out has never been attempted my me before.  Ever.

 5/6/07 -  I am at 6,248 words.
From here on out, I roll without a script!  And so far I'm doing ok.  Things are coming together in interesting, albeit badly written ways.  :)

5/7/07 - I am at 8,478 words.  :)  I am proud of my achievement even though I'm about 4,000 words behind schedule.  I'm catching up slowly, and I frequently do a lot at the last minute, so I'll probably just not sleep the final week in May. x.x
Although, I am trying to catch up little by little.
My word count tomorrow should be 13,336.  Lets see how close I get.  :)

5/8/07 - I am at 10,053!  I officially made it into double digits. I am 2 days behind (the mark for day 6 is 10,002)  But I am at least keeping my deficit from getting larger.
I hope to make up the extra 3,000 words by having a double session on Saturday and Sunday when I don't have to get up at 7:30 in the morning to go to work,  :(  but that means I have to keep up my word count on Friday as well (campaign night)
Day 9 says I ought to have 15,003 words.  Let's see if I can't shrink that deficit by 500 words or so!

5/9/07 - 12,319  still behind.  Damn these words add up fast!  May write long episodes from Seth's childhood, if the mood takes me.  THAT should waste a lot of words!
My count for Day 10 ought to be 16,670.  Ah!  More words!!

5/10/07 - I suck today.  I only wrote 731 words, leaving my count at 13,171.  Got a crippling case of writers block & just stared at the computer screen for an hour & then went to go look at webcomics.  :(  that actually inspired me a little bit because I was able to write after that.  I can't wait till the weekend when I can sleep for real.
In other news, I made cupcakes today...
Tomorrow's scary word count will be... ... ...a lot.  I can't find the book write now, but it's 1,500 more than yesterday's. Gonna go get some sleep now.

5/12/07 - although, it's technically the 13th right now...
Didn't update here yesterday.  I wrote a few hundred words and got my count to 14 something.  Some crazy stuff happened with my brother locking himself out of his car at 1am so I left it at that.
Today I took a pad with me to the car dealership (got a new car w00t.  old one was starting to break down)  and took notes all day, then came home & wrote 3,000 words. & kicked the crap out of my writers block.  I'm now at
17,079 words and plan on writing more tomorrow.  Must go now.  need sleep.  sorry about grammar and all that.

5/15/07  - I am at the half way mark in the month, and half also made it to 25,065.  I am on fire!!  Do you hear me???  FIRE!!!!   ...I also think I might be giving myself carpal tunnel from the angle my hands are at.  Need to get myself one of those ergonomic wrist rest thingies...
Anyway, it's a big relief to be all caught up.  :)  My target word count for tomorrow, the 16th is:  26,672 words.
Off to bed!

5/16/07 - 26,778  I'm ahead of the game!  :)
5/17/07 - 28,484  -- ahead again.  Gonna try for 35K this weekend maybe.
5/18/17 - 30,422  Definitely going to try for 35K this weekend.
5/19/07 - forgot to update yesterday, but I'm at 32,849 :) 35K here I come!

5/20/07 - I am sorry to say that I am not at 35,000 words, however, I am thrilled to say that I am at 40,000 words!  I have only 10,000 words left of my novel, but I am still not really near the end.  I am concerned, and may have to summarize a bit more towards the end of the week.  I really hope to get to THE END by the end of the month.  :D  In case you're wondering how long 40,000 words is, it is roughly 74 pages, single spaced (probably a bit less because i space funny.)  My eyeballs feel like they're going to fall out of my head from staring at this screen all day, but it is a good feeling.  :D

5.22.07 - 43,399 I would have more, but I got distracted by online games.  DAMN MY ATTENTION SPAN!!!   I blame my brother, for playing online games in front of me while I tried to write.  :D  I'm still only in the late middle of the story or so, but I can't seem to stop writing in scene.  ah well.  I'll figure it out.  I've been writing in a notepad on my lunch breaks and that seems to help.  :)
I can't wait to get to 50K

5/29/07 - 47,948   Yeah, so, I'm behind again, right at the finish line, but I have an extra day than the book allots (30 days has November).  I should be able to catch up in the next day or two (i hope..::crosses fingers::  I want to do it before 12:00 that night)  I sort of reached the end...kind of...  When I got to 43,000 I realized that I could stop the story right there if I wanted to, but there was still a lot more to go, so this may need a sequel, or it may even need to be a trilogy.  Anyway, from here on out i am going to try to outline the events of the next "two" (tentatively)  books and try to reach the end of the overall story arc, but this is definitely one of the things I will be looking for during review.  :D
When I get to 50,000 words, I will post my plans for the manuscript!

5.30.07 - 49,295  I Reached The End.  Of Everything.  Tomorrow I'll go back and add details to parts.
So.  Here's my masterplan:
First of all, after tomorrow, I'll transplant this whole mess here in recent news to my LJ where it belongs (because it's so long that it's kind of rediculous.  I will also E-mail out some copies of my novel as they are.
By the end of June (but hopefully before that), I will post the revised version of chapter one on Fiction press, where I hope all of you  lovely people will go on and rate/review me.  :D  I want to try to do a chapter a month at least after that.  I also plan to put up my website in June.
Besides that, I plan on Sleeping, Seeing my friends and generally having a social life.  50K HERE I COME!!! XD

5.31.07 - 50,001
I did it!!!  I did it!!!!  *does happy dance*

Good news, good news.

I read the Chris Baty book (no plot no problem).  Chris Baty's the guy that invented NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth (NANOWRIMO)  that I keep sucking at because it's in November.

Well, the book gives you a weekly guide & helps you out & tells you where you're supposed to be at so you can do Nanowrimo in *ANY* month, not just November.
Yeah.
So I decided to do it in May.  :)  I am 17,000 and change words along so far (which is about 3,000 words behind, but still farther than I've ever been before)  and I think about half way through plot-wise (just rescued K'ira, if that means anything to you)

Hopefully I will have 50,000 words and a completed 1st draft by the end of the month!  How awesome is that??  (Answer: Awesome)

Plus, Website 1.0 is about ready to be uploaded (but prolly won't be until June as novel is sucking up all free time at the moment, which is why it's the 13th already when I put this up) .   It looks pretty.  I did need to revamp the whole thing, but it didn't take nearly as long & it looks nice.  I also have some of my research materials already up & have been updating the quiz a bit.  I may have a new question on it too.  :)

Art is a bit on hold right now, but I've been practicing drawing from life (as opposed to cartooning) because my brother said that was the best way to learn how to make folds.  Also experimenting with pastels a bit.  I feel like I've hit a brick wall with my style as far as improvement and I've been trying new things.
Not this month though.  :)

Anyways, expect another update at the end of May when you can find out how I did!

Merrily we roll along

How I feel: good good

Hello hello.

I have a fiction press account now. :D  Here it is:  http://www.fictionpress.com/~angelyarn

I just got it so nothing is published there.  :(

However, I plan on putting up "The Aftermath" after the three day waiting period.  :)

I'd also put up my short story if I could ever *FIND* it, but alas, it was on the broken hard drive of Nar and my hard copy has mysteriously disappeared.
...
So yeah.  Fictionpress.

I also put some stuff up on my DeviantArt page.
Yes.  I have a Deviant Art page.  I told you I would get one.  :)  It's here:  http://angelyarn.deviantart.com
There's now 2 Seth pictures, a Shaylin picture, a Jayde picture & 2 R'ika pictures (although, it's the same pic in 2 different programs.)   and there'll be a Rachael pic coming soon.  These pics may or may not appear on quizilla in the near future.

As for my website:
It looks like I'll be able to put a number of my research materials up on it, which would be pretty cool.  It's getting really big & complicated, though, & I might have to go back through & simplify it somewhat.

And last but not least:  THE NOVEL
Well, I ran into a bit of trouble.  Plot trouble, mind you.  So I had to go back & adjust parts of it.  To do this, I studied Anne Bishop's "Daughter of Blood"  like a bible.  Did I ever mention that I love that book?  A lot?
Yeah.  So, the first ch. is going to start in T'ien's office.  As for my plot problem, Mark gave me a really good idea.  Unfortunately it changes a bunch of things in CH. 2.   I fixed that, & now I'm working on Ch. 3, but chapter 4 (which i finished ::sigh::)  is no more.  and I don't know how the conversations from Ch. 5 are going to work in.
The problem I guess was that the plot here was still a holdover from the first time I tried to write the story when K'van was the main character.  I really need to throw out everything I have from then plot wise & just start fresh.

I also think I want to read that book by Chris Batey.  & look through my Dufresne book again.  "The lie that tells a truth"=Amazing.

Now I need to go make a resume so that I can get an internship & then do a bunch of homework.  :D

Speaking of New, isn't there supposed to be some kinda new website up soon?

Yes.  yes there is.  And it is going to be AWESOME.

"That's great!"  you say.  "But where is it? "

Well, it's on my computer.  You see, the cool program thingy I'm using lets you create the whole thing on your computer and then upload it all at once.  So, even though it looks gorgeous,  you won't get to see any of it until I'm all done.

It could be a while, but it's going to be worth the wait.  :)

It's going to have a character page (yay!); the reference pages will be updated with relevant information about magic systems and dimensions; the gallery is going to be a link to a Deviant art page, so you can access the pictures easier and in a way that makes sense (Yay sensemaking!) ; the quiz has been updated and getting pictures and all other kinds of new and shiney things!

"But how goes the novel?" you (singular...x.x) ask.

It goes.  I finished chapter 4 (triple yay!).  I don't like it, but it's done.  :)  I'm on chapter 5 now.  I have a bunch of dialogues  that I need to join together with exposition.

I'm also working on a second story with my boyfriend.  It's getting published chapter by chapter on FictionPress.com .  It's tentatively titled "Covenant"  and it's under his pen name, Sanctuary of Souls.  We have 6 chapters so far.

So, yeah.  That's what's been going on.  Updates in another month or so, I guess.

Land of confusion?

Right now my website is very confused.

Some of it's Geocities, some of it's at&t, and it's sort of a mess. Thankfully, I got this program that will let me make websites the way I want to, so I won't have to worry about that anymore. In the meantime: There's some new pictures on the gallery (yay!) and the maps are up on the reference page. :)

In other news, I'm on ch. 4 still, but I finished something I'm calling ch. 2.5, so i guess I'm sort of on ch. 5.I think I'm officially farther along then ever before. My original manuscript only went up to five chapters and at the end of the five they were only starting out on their journey. I'm also doing NANOWRIMO (national novel writing month) in a lazy laid back sort of way, so hopefully that will add to my word count, and a more uniform website should be up soon.

I'm off now to make pictures for the quiz. Horay for photoshop! :D

Right now I'm in  the middle of 4 & 2.5 :)  4 is a battle scene & I need to change the view in 2.5.

I have a pic up in the gallary & I'll have a few more soon.   I'm also working on an Geocities site that will replace parts of the old at&t site.

So yeah.  Busy busy busy.  :)

Update

Well, I was looking through my old gallery and wondering why I haven't put up any new pictures on it in years.

This is because I don't really finish pictures anymore.  (finish meaning ink & color etc.)  All the pictures up there are really old (read: bad) though, so I'm going to take them down.  I'm not going to close down my gallery, though.
I've taken digital pictures of my all my unfinished pics.  I can now upload them to the website as is or finish them in photoshop.  I have some maps, and the series of Goddess pictures I was doing & my little portrait series with chins.

Yay chins!
i don't know when they'll be up, but thats what I plan to do.  :D
Once I upload some online I'll leave a few tidbits over here.

I've had a headache all day, ever since jemi told me we might have meningitis.  >:P it's mind over matter.  I'm going to have a stiff neck later from carrying books & then send myself into hysteria.  :(

Well, now I'm going to go cropping!

Happy Day!

Heya! I know its been a while, but I have been productive.

I am now on Chapter 4! YAY!

Everything is still in a very rough state of course, but I'm going to try to get to the end before I perfect it. I have read several books on this and they say that is the better thing to do.

I also have, A PLOT! YAY!!!

I've been really happy with the way things are going and I have a lot of new information that I haven't been able to update on my website. This is because most of it isn't even on my computer. it's in notebooks. :(

Does anyone around here know how to use Maple? It's an organization & cross-reference program I want to use to organize my notes, but before I pay $30 for it, I want to make sure i can use it.

If I get some time I'd like to update my oasis web-page, but right now most focus in on getting as much of the story done as possible.

In other news, Fallen updated. YAY!! that's such a great comic.

Gosh.  I'm awfully exited in all these.  70% of my titles have "YAY!" in them.  If i didn't know me better I'd think I was on happy pills or something lol

I feel productive! Finally figured out Hazel's last name *and* found names for Zyhire's three political Parties IN TEH SAME DAY!!!!

Imagine.

:D

Hazel's last name is Conway, which sounds vaugely Irish, but not so much that you would actually think she came from Ireland (which she doesn't). :D

I'm thinking I'll call the Conservatives the Zyhirean Unity Party. That sounds about stuck up enough.
Right now the Liberals are the Progressive Peoples Party and
The Radicals are the Secular Trade Party,
Referred to as the Unitarians, The Progressives and the Radicals, (who prefer to call themselves Secularists...or something like that) respectively.

Yay. This makes me happy.

The parties have no bearing on the American Political situation, since a Zyhirean Liberal is sort of an American Republican...but cooler... and the parties are based off of different things, some of which revolve around thier religion, prophesies and saving the world.

so, yeah.  I'm happy.  I think I'll update the refrence section on my other site now.

Bye.

Well, I fixed the paragraphs that I had a problem with, and I mailed it to myself, along with some character descriptions and concept descriptions, so that I'm copywrite protected. Jemi says there's a place where I can post it that copywrites it for me, so I need to look into that. For right now, though, the Chapter *is* up, even if it's in a very rough form.

Here's a link if you want to go straight to the page.

http://home.att.net/~sanna17/ch1.html

Otherwise, just go through the "Feigned Oasis" site.

There's sort of parts missing and places where I was like "_____" especially with Hazel because I haven't decided on her last name, but that will be fixed in time. Hopefully even while I'm in Spain.

If you have any critiques I would appreciate them, but please be gentle. I know that it's incoherent right now and unless you're already familiar with it, it probably doesn't make much sense.

I'm working on that.

Either way, at least I feel like I'm accomplishing something now. :)
